Why now is the wrong time to ditch Chinese equities

A leading emerging markets specialist has said China remains a compelling investment proposition, despite the slowing growth in the region.

The most recent Chinese GDP figures revealed slower than expected growth in the country, and both the Hang Seng and the Shanghai Composite indices are down year to date, 3.36% and 3.7%, respectively. But Giordano Lombardo (pictured), group CIO for Pioneer Investments, is still confident, and is maintaining an overweight in Chinese equities. Speaking at the Pioneer Colloquia Series Forum in Beijing, he said: "A country growing at 10% a year for a long time needs to decelerate, it is more important to have higher quality growth and strong exports."
