MPC's Fisher: Bank of England may still extend QE

A member of the Monetary Policy Committee told the Treasury today that "all of the discussions" at the Bank of England are about extending the quantitative easing programme rather than slowing it down.

Paul Fisher, the Bank's executive director for markets and a member of the nine-strong MPC, made the comment at today's meeting of the Treasury Select Committee when asked about issuing forward guidance. Unlike the US Federal Reserve, the Bank of England is still far from talks of tapering QE, as the economic improvements in the UK have not reached the same scale as in the US. However, so far this year the BoE committee has consistently voted against injecting a further £25bn into the economy, leaving QE unchaged at £375bn.
