Jim O'Neill, the former chairman of Goldman Sachs AM who coined the term 'BRICs', will join the board of the Department for Education in the autumn.
O'Neill, who was chairman of Goldman Sachs AM until April, was recruited by Secretary of State for Education Michael Gove, according to the Times. It reports O'Neill is already well known in the world of education after he helped to found Shine, a charity that has raised £17m for educational projects to support disadvantaged children. According to the Times, O'Neill has always denied being party political: "I don't really have any political views," he said. "People often see me as being a bit left of centre. I don't know why.
