Key Neil Woodford holdings including Capita and BAE Systems dropped sharply in late trading yesterday as news of the manager's 2014 departure from Invesco Perpetual filtered through.
Capita, in which Woodford holds a 22% stake, closed down 3.6% at 970.5p, making it the highest-profile victim of the news. Other stocks such as Woodford favourite G4S also slumped mid-afternoon before recovering ground by the close. Meanwhile Imperial Tobacco, in which Invesco holds around an 8% stake, dropped 2% on the news to close at £21.89. Even shares in pharmaceutical giants AstraZeneca and GlaxoSmithKline were knocked by the announcement, though both finished the day roughly flat.
