Ex-Co-op boss criticised by MPs for 'selective amnesia'

The former boss of the Co-op was lambasted by MPs for having ‘selective amnesia' after he claimed its stricken bank is an innocent victim of the financial crash.

In a grilling by the Treasury Select Committee, Peter Marks described the near collapse of the lender and its loss of control to US hedge funds as a ‘tragedy'. But he refused to apologise, claiming he was not to blame for its downfall, according to the Daily Mail. His comments come as the Co-op's under-pressure chairman Len Wardle announced plans to quit.
