Henderson Global Investors has promoted Paul O'Connor to co-head of multi-asset in a bid to raise the team's global profile.

O’Connor will be tasked with helping veteran manager Bill McQuaker develop the firm’s global presence in both institutional and retail markets. His appointment comes just one year after he joined Henderson, having previously spent 20 years working in the industry.

The 13-strong multi-asset team manages £6bn in assets. Over the three years to 20 January 2014, the Henderson Multi-Manager Diversified fund returned 25%, compared to a sector average of 13.9%, according to FE.

Just under a third of the fund is invested in the UK, while a quarter is invested internationally.

McQuaker said clients and colleagues will benefit from O'Connor's experience: "Our intention is to build up our institutional business to match that of our retail offering, and adding someone of Paul's ability to work with me to achieve that aim is a significant step forwards."
