FTSE makes gains as Scotland decides

Shares in the UK climbed in early trading as investors awaited the result of the Scottish referendum on independence.

As Scots head to the polls to vote on the future of their country, a muted the FTSE 100 made some small gains, the market edging up 0.4% or 25 points, to 6,805. The risers were dominated by travel groups after a surprise dividend hike by peer easyJet. The news saw easyJet shares climb over 2%, while peer TUI Travel, which announced merger plans with its German parent earlier this week, headed the leader board after climbing 3.6%. Overnight, shares also climbed in the US, with the Dow and S&P 500 up marginally by 0.2% and 0.1% respectively, but it was Japan which jumped substantiall...
