Scotland goes to the polls: How the vote was decided on the ground

The majority of Scotland has voted to stay as part of the UK, with the 'no' campaign taking 55% of the vote, but how did this look on the ground?

In total, just under 3.5m Scots turned out to vote (according to the BBC), with 1.91m Scots - or 55.4% of the turnout - voting 'no', to 1.54m (44.6%) voting 'yes'. The 'no' vote triumphed in the majority of the country, including the capital Edinburgh (61% vs 39%), Aberdeenshire (60% vs 40%) and Fife (55% to 45%). However Glasgow, the country's largest city, was a notable exception, with the 'yes' vote taking 53.5% of the vote from its 486,000-strong electorate.
