Baillie Gifford partner Tom Slater has been promoted to co-manager of Scottish Mortgage, the UK's largest investment trust, alongside James Anderson.
Slater has been deputy manager of the trust since 2009, and was appointed a partner at Baillie Gifford in 2012, having worked at the group since 2000. He has already run Scottish Mortgage on his own for a six-month period in 2013 when Anderson took a sabbatical. Slater is also understood to have played a key part in the trust's early investment in Alibaba, a position which netted Scottish Mortgage and others a big payday when the stock floated in New York last summer.
