Charlie Long and Nick Judge boosted the performance of the £304m GLG UK Select fund in 2014, after a rocky second quarter forced them to review the fund's risk management processes.
The pair also underweighted commodities and focused on currency management to propel the fund into the top quartile by the end of 2014. Long said: "We are always continuing to improve our investment performance, but we learned a lot in 2014. We had a challenging period in Q2 and this was a catalyst for us to improve our risk systems and the way we look at our portfolio exposures. "We firmly believe that the pain and lessons learnt from this period helped us to navigate the autumn sell-off, and will stand us in good stead to cope with similar trading conditions in future."
