Prudential chief executive Tidjane Thiam has been named as the surprise new head of Credit Suisse.
Thiam (pictured), head of the FTSE-100 listed insurer since October 2009, will replace Brady Dougan at the Swiss bank and wealth manager at the end of June 2015. The move will come as a blow to Prudential, where Thiam has overseen a period of rapid expansion despite a failed 2010 bid for Asian peer AIA. Having left his role as head of Aviva's European operations to join Prudential in 2008, initially as CFO, Thiam has propelled the firm's growth in the US and Asia - aided by strong growth at asset management arm M&G - to diversify away from its more mature UK life business.
