Brevan Howard economist to join MPC

Brevan Howard Asset Management senior economist Dr Gertjan Vlieghe is to join the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee as of September.

Vlieghe, partner and senior economist at Brevan Howard Asset Management, will become an external member of the MPC from 1 September for an initial three-year term. He replaces Professor David Miles, who comes to the end of his extended second term at the end of August, having joined the committee in June 2009. Prior to his current role, Vlieghe was a director at Deutsche Bank. He has also had a previous seven-year stint at the Bank of England, where his roles included economic assistant to then-governor Mervyn King.
