European investors can insulate themselves from a slowdown in China if they focus on companies which the world's second largest economy cannot replicate, according to Mark Page, co-manager of the Artemis European Opportunities fund.
Page, who runs the £272m fund with Laurent Millet, said recent concerns over slowing growth in China have had no real impact on the portfolio, as his holdings are not dependant on larger economies to succeed. "As long as we buy the companies the Chinese need to buy products from, and not those they can replicate and potentially sell at a cheaper price (as they have done with SUVs), then we should not be hit too hard when growth falters," he said.
