BNY Mellon is offering external investors access to the multi-asset Newton Osprey fund, managed by one of its longest serving fund managers - Robert Shelton, for the first time.
Shelton, who joined the group in 1984, was well-known among fund selectors as he ran the £1bn Newton Income fund until he suffered a serious car accident in early 2002, which left him a quadriplegic. At the time of the accident, his fund was top-rated by Fund Research - then the most well respected UK ratings agency. A couple of years later in 2004, the manager began running the Osprey fund, investing a significant portion of his compensation money from the accident, as well as funds from friends and Newton colleagues.
