Martin Currie poaches boutique team to head up Japan long/short desk

Martin Currie has poached an investment team from boutique firm PK Investment Management to head up its Japan long/short equities desk alongside existing manager Claire Marwick.

Paul Kirkby, chief executive at PK Investment Management, will join Martin Currie to lead its Japan long/short investment proposition, along with his current co-manager Paul Smith, subject to regulatory approval. The new team will also bring over their existing Cayman domiciled, $167m RIT PK Japan fund to broaden Martin Currie's fund range. The pair will work alongside Marwick, who currently manages the £63.2m Legg Mason IF Martin Currie Japan Alpha fund, to oversee combined assets of $425m in the asset class.
