Winterflood: The investment trusts to back in 2016

Woodford, Rodrigs and Barnett make the cut

Winterflood Securities has tipped 32 investment trusts to outperform in 2016, including offerings from Woodford IM, Invesco Perpetual, Fidelity and River & Mercantile, as it warned the wider sector remains vulnerable to a sell-off.

The investment trust research team have adopted a new approach to issuing recommendations for the year by creating a model portfolio to present their highest conviction ideas across the closed‐ended fund space. However, the firm said as it does not make its own macro-economic calls and is therefore replicating the asset allocation breakdown of the FTSE WMA Balanced Portfolio. This currently has 35% in UK equities, 30% in international equities, 17.5% in bonds, 7.5% in hedge funds/alternatives, 5% in commercial property and 5% in cash.
