Henri de Castries, chairman and chief executive of AXA, is to retire from his role on 1 September after 27 years at the group.
His role will be split in two following his departure, with Thomas Buberl taking over as chief executive and Denis Duverne becoming chairman of the insurance business. The decision to split the role was made unanimously at a special meeting this weekend, according to City AM. De Castries (pictured) has been at the firm for 27 years, and at the helm of it for 17 years.
