Treasury bank bailout architect emerges as favourite for L&G chairman role

L&G is understood to be in talks with John Kingman, former second permanent secretary of the Treasury, to become its new chairman.

According to Sky News, Kingman could replace John Stewart as chairman "within the coming weeks", although the appointment would be subject to approval from the Prudential Regulation Authority. Other reports over the weekend say he is now the favourite to take the top job. Stewart, who stepped down on 1 June, had sat on the board since 2010 and is a former deputy chief executive of Barclays.
