The First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon this morning said a second independence referendum is "on the table", after all of the country's local authorities voted to stay in the European Union.
Sturgeon (pictured) welcomed Scotland's "unequivocal" vote to stay in Europe, noting she thought it was the "wrong decision" for the UK to leave the EU. However, she added it is also "democratically unacceptable" that Scotland faces the prospect of being taken out of the EU "against its will". The Scottish National Party manifesto for the Scottish Parliament election in May laid down the condition for a second independence vote. Sturgeon said that option was now "on the table".
