Fund buyers have identified a number of key issues and opportunities facing up-and-coming fund managers in an era of shorter investment cycles, higher levels of accessible product data, and increasing competition from passive vehicles.

As Investment Week launches its Managers to Watch series, profiling younger fund managers who have started to hit selectors' radars, allocators have identified what makes relatively unknown managers stand out, as they try to break into an industry dominated by well-established star names. "Younger managers face lots of challenges in these supranormal times.
