Macron triumphs to become youngest French President

Pro-Europe En Marche! leader Emmanuel Macron has won a decisive victory in the second round of the French Presidential Election against rival National Front leader Marine Le Pen.

Centrist Macron, who was the clear favourite going into the second round, won 66% of the votes versus 34% for Le Pen. As a result, Macron becomes the youngest French president in history at the age of 39.  However, the turnout was down on previous years at about 74%, which is the lowest figure in a presidential second round vote since 1969.
