African Land UCIS director jailed for hiding assets

Six months for contempt of court

A director of unauthorised collective investment scheme (UCIS) African Land who had been declared bankrupt has been jailed for six months for contempt of court for breaching asset freezing injunctions obtained by the FCA.

On 1 March 2019, Robert McKendrick was sentenced at the High Court of Justice to six months imprisonment for contempt of court after breaching freezing orders the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) had obtained. The High Court found he had diverted funds and failed to disclose information about his assets, which breached the freezing injunctions. McKendrick was the main director and sole shareholder of African Land - also known as Agri Capital - that offered investments in rice farm harvests in Sierra Leone.
