It was very kind of the Government to make the announcement a few weeks ago that it was going to allow product placement on television - not on the BBC of course, because God forbid the Beeb should not be seen as being impartial.
So, it set me thinking. A few financial services companies could perhaps go for a bit of product placement in TV programmes. Years ago, when I was editor of Bloomberg Money one of the characters in the ITV series Cold Feet was shown sitting up in bed reading our magazine instead of having sex with his wife. It brought a whole new meaning to 'assets' going up and down in value. I am not sure we sold anymore copies of the magazine, but it definitely made us all feel a bit better.
