As we start 2012, we are instinctively drawn to considering New Year's resolutions.

Fuelled by an extended period of pleasurable over-indulgence this Christmas, many of us will start the year not only determined to renew the gym membership (or the equivalent), but more importantly to use it as well in the hazy hope that we will carry on as we mean to start. Over the years, we have all been successfully programmed through various channels, principally school, the workplace and the media, to understand the importance of staying healthy through regular exercise and a balanced diet.
