Last week marked the UK's first ‘Ownership Day' - a national day dedicated to raising awareness of the benefits of long-term active ownership.
Active ownership strategies are those that use shareholder rights such as voting and engagement to improve the long-term value of a company. They act in the interests of asset owners, investment managers, companies and society by making sure an investor’s needs are aligned with the values, vision and strategy of the companies it owns. Funds that follow voting and engagement strategies now manage assets of at least £825bn in the UK, according to the UK Sustainable Investment and Finance Association.
