The implementation of the Retail Distribution Review (RDR) was hailed as a game-changer for the investment trust industry.

But, seven months into this new, commission-free world, an obstacle is still hindering some fund selectors from buying into the sector. As highlighted by Investment Week in May, fund buyers have bemoaned the lack of value in the closed-ended sector, which has forced some investment trust fund of fund buyers to seek open-ended alternatives. Discounts have hit lows last seen before the financial crisis, narrowing from 21% to 5%.
