I have never quite understood why January is such an important month.
Perhaps it is because investment professionals need some ‘signal’ date to review their clients’ portfolios and strategy. Maybe it is the weight of all those research reports thudding onto fund managers’ desks. Or maybe it is the legendary January effect, whereby riskier, smaller-cap stocks seem to do better, partly because of all those end-of-year, tax-motivated sell-offs?
