'Gorgeous George' morphs into 'Steady George'

Pollsters continually tell us that we vote based on how much better or worse off we feel in our pockets and whether or not politicians look electable, writes Lawrence Gosling.

As George Osborne delivered his last Budget before May's election, did he look like the right man to carry on running the nation's coffers? Did he make you feel a little bit better off in the pocket? Well, after the debacle of the ‘pasty' tax a few years ago the Chancellor has worked hard to make himself look electable. New haircut, lost a few pounds (in weight that is) and he has had some pictures taken to make himself look like a ‘man of the people', with a pint of English bitter in his hand. So if you can ever look like a chancellor, then George does. The alternative is Ed Balls...
