ETFs enjoy record year in 2015

Exchange-traded products globally enjoyed a record year in 2015, gathering some $351.8bn in assets, while European ETPs hit a number of milestones over the period, as demand for passive strategies continues to grow.

Ursula Marchioni, chief strategist for iShares EMEA, said inflows were driven by two big themes: "Firstly, central bank divergence resulting in a shift out of US assets into European investors' domestic markets. "Secondly, European investors searching for yield bought investment grade, high yield and emerging market debt products issued by European and US-based companies, attracted by the yield on offer compared to developed market government bonds."
