It seems like not a week goes by without another story of some hapless people being caught up in an investment scam.
Already this year we have seen a group of investors caught out in a currency Ponzi scheme that ran into millions of pounds. There was also a case last month involving elderly people being conned out of their savings, apparently by a group of individuals for jihadi terrorism. Just last week two business women were conned out of nearly £300,000, which the fraudster used to fund his 'champagne' lifestyle. In this particular case, the court was told he wooed the two women with 'lavish dinners' and tickets to events like Wimbledon. He then promised them returns of up to 20% by investing...
