Our new Theresa May-led Conservative government seems to be engaged in a classic example of kitchen sink revisionism, steadily ditching a whole series of commitments made by its predecessor.

In fact, step by step we are seeing all the political leaders attacking a whole range of beloved shibboleths, in the process bringing back ideas such as grammar schools that have not been seriously discussed since the 1970s! In fact, I sense that something akin to an economic and political Ashes to Ashes moment has arrived. Maybe it is all the fault of the Brexit referendum digging up issues we thought had been settled 40 years ago. What could be the long-term implications of Brexit for the City? I would maintain that the big story here is that the knives are out generally for free...
