Investors should be prepared to see many more announcements like this morning's 'merger of equals' between Henderson and Janus Capital in the near future, writes editor Katrina Lloyd.

It has long been predicted consolidation in the sector will gather pace as asset managers face ever increasing pressure on margins and the need for effective diversification at product and distribution level becomes vital for survival.
