Asset managers have already bumped promoting diversity within their businesses high up their priority lists for 2017 and beyond, and have pledged their support for a number of cross-industry initiatives.
Clearly, there is still much work to do in this area, particularly when it comes to supporting women in the industry. Representation on financial firms' boards is growing but at a snail's pace - the financial services sector globally will only reach 30% female executive committee representation by 2048, while just 15% of portfolio managers globally are women, as of December 2015, according to consultancy firm Oliver Wyman.
