It is with some trepidation I broach the subject of the upcoming General Election in France. Obviously, given the track record of most pundits on matters Trump and Brexit-related, anything I say must be treated with a large tumbler of salt.

If things do not go right in France the impact on British investors will be very substantial. As the weeks have passed, I have grown increasingly despondent about the election.  Maybe it is because I read too much into the novel Submission by Michel Houellebecq. In this alternative future reality, he imagines a Muslim president being elected in an increasingly divided France.  The hero - a louche academic - narrates this strange journey, which ends up with the equivalent of the Muslim Brotherhood taking over French schools.  It is, of course, ludicrous as a near-future prediction, ...
