Contrarian Investor: Robot wars are hotting up

The robot wars are starting to get exciting. I am not referring to the wonderfully strange TV programme of that name, rather to the inevitable showdown between those platforms offering Robo-Advice Mark 1: cheapest is best.

A few weeks ago, IG Group finally announced its first stab at a proper robo-advice killer, namely its IG Smart Portfolios service, in collaboration with BlackRock's iShares. The online broker - the service will run via its fast growing stockbroker platform - will be offering clients five risk-rated portfolios constructed by IG, using asset allocation insights from BlackRock's Aladdin service.
