I am sure Neil Woodford doesn't need me to defend him - but I am going to anyway after the absurdity of the criticism he has faced.
It was almost the equivalent of investment trolling, as a few commentators and critics seemed to revel in the chance to have a go. For those with short memories, Woodford came in for further criticism after the near 70% drop in the share price of one of his holdings Provident Financial, on the back of a profit warning and departing boss. There were undoubtedly some in the industry whispering quite loudly that he might be losing his investment touch, while others asked what keeps him doing it when he has made so much money already.
