Despite sterling's volatility and the political uncertainty surrounding Brexit, 2018 was a good year for the UK's M&A market, writes Stephen Llewellyn and Hans-Christian Mehrens of law firm Faegre Baker Daniels.

Mergers and acquisitions involving UK companies were up by more than a quarter and, according to data from Refinitiv, the UK was the third most targeted country by value after the US and China, while UK firms were the fourth most acquisitive globally in 2018, after the US, China and Japan. Fuelled by central banks barely increasing base interest rates, the generally strong M&A activity was also mirrored in the asset managers market, where 2017 tie-ups such as the merger between Janus Capital Group and Henderson Global Investors were followed up by, among others, BT Pension Scheme's sale ...
