Just 7% of investment funds in the UK are managed or co-managed by women, according to Morningstar.
In contrast, the proportion of women in other professions - like law, accountancy and medicine - varies between 24% and 48%. Similarly, the number of female fund managers in the US is less than 10% and, if anything, has been declining in the last ten years and stands well below other professions. This speaks to a wider issue regarding the under-representation of cognitive diversity in what are essentially male-focused cultures with behavioural undertones that are deemed distasteful.
