Eleven investment trust sectors, ten of which invest in alternative assets, currently yield more than the FTSE 100's average of 4.6%, according to data from the Association of Investment Companies (AIC).

UK equities have been a core holding for domestic savers for years  as the country's dividend culture plays well into portfolios for those savers and investors seeking a high and attractive income stream in retirement. The blue-chip index for the largest 100 companies in the UK has seen the percentage payout of its constituents spike in recent months as share prices fall out of favour on Brexit uncertainty.
