Investment company assets hit £200bn

Assets have doubled since January 2013

Investment companies' assets under management surpassed £200bn for the first time in July, according to data from industry body the Association of Investment Companies (AIC).

Total investment company industry assets were £200.3bn as of 31 July 2019, due in part to continued strong growth from alternative asset offerings, the AIC said. It means assets held in investment trusts have doubled since they hit £100bn back at the end of January 2013. The body said that almost half, or 46%, of that growth has come from investment companies investing in alternative vehicles, which grew by 132% to £80.3bn under management in that time.
