Long-term investors in the Association of Investment Companies’ (AIC) list of dividend hero investment trusts could be receiving yields of up to 18%, new research from investment platform AJ Bell shows.

AJ Bell has found that four of the trade body's 41 current and next-generation dividend heroes - trusts that have raised their dividend every year for ten consecutive years or more - now have yields on their 2009 share price that exceed 10%. Three of those trusts have more than trebled investors' money in that time. A further 16 trusts yield between 7% and 10% on their 2009 share prices. Meanwhile, the average total return from the 41 trusts over the past decade is 210.5%, with just two - British & American and Artemis Alpha Trust - having not doubled their shareholders' cash.
