UK equity allocations surge to pre-Brexit referendum levels

Investors have flooded back to UK equities with allocations in the first quarter of 2021 returning to levels last seen before the Brexit referendum five years ago, according to data from Harrington Cooper.

The firm's proprietary asset allocation tracker revealed that allocations to equities overall rose by 3.4% on a relative basis in Q1 with stocks now making up 58.4% of balanced portfolios. Within these allocations, UK equities were most in favour. Harrington Cooper commented: "UK equities are clearly back in focus now Brexit uncertainty has passed, and signs of a successful vaccine rollout is stoking investor optimism in a strong Covid recovery for the UK."
