FTSE Russell has launched a suite of eight Paris-aligned equity indices covering developed and emerging markets.
The FTSE EU Climate Benchmarks Index Series aims to keep the global temperature rises below two degrees Celsius by 2050, as per the Paris Agreement, and applies a tilt away from firms with fossil fuel and carbon reserves. Classified under Article 9 of the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation, the suite will limit the active weight of banking sector constituents to no greater than their weight in the underlying indices, to reflect the sector's role in funding carbon emitters.
