Equity trusts dominate platform most bought lists despite recent alternatives issuance

Numis report on retail demand for trusts

Long-established investment trusts with equity-oriented strategies continue to dominate the most bought lists on retail platforms, despite alternative assets capturing much of the attention in the closed-ended sector in recent years.

According to data from Numis, the most bought lists across AJ Bell, interactive investor and Fidelity's platforms consistently include well-known names that have amassed a sizable following among retail investors over many years, such as Scottish Mortgage, City of London and F&C.  Other popular trusts across all platforms this year have been BlackRock World Mining, Alliance Trust, Fidelity European and Merchants.
