Slowdown expected in UK jobs market amid 'early signs of shakiness' in vacancies

The UK jobs market flagged slightly between January and February 2025, with the number of payrolled employees decreasing by 8,000 (0%), estimates from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show.

Figures published today (15 April) found that the number of salaried employees fell by 21,000 (0.1%) over the quarter. Treasury launches support package for businesses hit by tariffs While the number of employees on payroll rose by 35,000 (0.1%) over the year to February 2025, predictions for March 2025 suggest that the growth is not sustainable. These figures showed that payrolled employees for March 2025 decreased by 78,000 (0.3%) on the month and by 70,000 (0.2%) on the year to 30.3 million.
