Observed on 28 July annually, 'World Nature Conservation Day' is aimed at raising humanity’s awareness about the importance of natural resources and the need to live sustainably.
This year, the reminder is particularly relevant given the upheaval resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic. A WHO report has pointed to the potential disease risks of contact between wildlife and people and how habitat destruction is removing the buffer zone, which has protected us from such zoonotic diseases.
