Private equity has traditionally been the domain of pension funds and other institutional investors, but retail investors could also benefit from this “often overlooked” asset class, according to industry players. LPEQ, the association of listed private equity investment companies, suggests retail investors reconsider their allocation after new research found global wealth managers, who currently allocate on average 17% of their portfolios to alternatives and, of that, 58% to hedge funds with only 11% to private equity, are planning to increase their exposure markedly.
