Update: Hargreaves Lansdown launches petition over Lloyds share sale

10,000 signatures needed for government to respond

Hargreaves Lansdown has set up a petition asking the government to reconsider its position on the sale of Lloyds shares exclusively to institutional investors.

The petition follows Hargreaves Lansdown CEO Ian Gorham's comments which labelled the government's sale as "disgraceful and patronising". If the petition reaches 10,000 signatures the government will need to respond, while if 100,000 signatures are reached the issue will be considered for debated in parliament.  Gorham (pictured) said: "We are disappointed the government plan to exclude the general public when selling its stake in Lloyds Banking Group.
