FTSE 100 CEO pay falls 17% following investor pressure

The average pay of FTSE 100 chief executives fell on average by 17% last year following investor and "political pressure" on the UK's leading firms to cut the CEO pay packages.

According to a report conducted by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and the High Pay Centre, an average FTSE 100 CEO had a salary of £4.5m in 2016 compared to £5.4m in 2015, a 17% drop. Furthermore, the average pay packet of the 25 highest earning FTSE 100 CEOs fell by 24% to £9.4m last year as firms "chase the median".
