The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has initiated an investigation into a suspected cartel involving bond traders at a group of international banks, according to reports.
The competition watchdog announced last Friday it had opened an investigation into "suspected anti-competitive arrangements" in the financial services sector on 13 November. According to Sky News, senior banking figures said the CMA is investigating any signs of foul play in the City's bond markets. It specifically relates to arrangements which "may infringe Chapter 1 of the Competition Act 1998 and/or Article 101 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union".
